A software development kit is a set of tools that allows for the creation of apps, and Tim Cook announced five new ones for iOS 8 after he left the stage at WWDC.
The two big takeaways were the Health and Home kits. Health Kit is a one-stop shop for all of your fitness tracking devices, allowing you to monitor your health from your iPhone. What takes Health Kit to the next level though is Apple’s partnership with the Mayo Clinic and other healthcare providers, turning your device into a mobile doctor.
Home Kit integrates with smart home devices to bring your iPhone and iPad into the Internet of Things. Users will be able to control every lock and lamp in their home with the push of a button or a Siri voice command.
